International Pet Transportation and Travel With Carry My Pet
Transporting a pet internationally is a complex and daunting task. Involving strict paperwork and customs checks at every step of the way, an international import job is an exhausting endeavor to embark upon, especially if one is operating by themselves. When a pet is transferred from one country to another, there are numerous documentation requirements which have to be met. Here are a few of them.
General Requirements:
NOC: Also known as a No Objection Certificate, it is an import permit which is mandatory for any animal movement in or out of the country, regardless of whether the animal is accompanied by baggage or a part of airline cargo.
Quarantine Certificate: A certificate stating your animal has received the mandatory vaccinations is required before any movement. This document is given by Animal Quarantine and Certification Service (AQCS) and certifies your pet is healthy and disease-free.
Health Certificate: To be obtained from a registered veterinary practitioner, signed and stamped.
Microchip: A microchip is the only proof of identity a pet has. All pets being imported to or exported from India must be Microchipped. India uses ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 like the rest of the world and is mandatory for international pet travel.
Documents/Checks Required to Import Pet Under Baggage Rule for Owners:
Arriving in the Country:
As Accompanied Baggage: Ticket of the owner is required for pets being imported as accompanied baggage.
As Unaccompanied Baggage: Within 1 month after arrival of owner – copy of Passport along with immigration stamp.
Required: Visa copy/other document to establish continuous stay abroad for at least two years with proof of transferring the residence to India. In case of doubt/procedural requirement advance Custom Permission may be asked to consider the pet under Baggage rule.
Pet Requirements
For Dogs: The official health certificate from the country of origin certifying that the dog is free from clinical sign and symptoms of all infectious and contagious diseases including Rabies, Canine Distemper, Parvovirus infection, Leptospirosis etc.
For Cats: The official health certificate from the country of origin certifying that the cat is free from clinical sign and symptoms of all infectious and contagious diseases including Rabies, Distemper, Feline enteritis, Feline panleukopenia, leptospirosis etc.
Rabies Vaccination & Vaccination Record
The Dog (three months of age and older) and Cat must be vaccinated against Rabies more than one month, but within 12 months prior to actual embarkation and all details shall be officially certified or mentioned in the official Health certificate. Also, all other vaccination record/detail shall be officially certified or mentioned in the official Health Certificate.
Owner Details Required
The name of owner in the official health certificate must match with the name as mentioned in the ticket of owner to establish ownership.
The name and address of the owner in the country of origin and in the country of arrival (import) must be mentioned on the health certificate.
A declaration from the owner that the dog/cat is bona fide pet with no commercial interest, gift and breeding purpose.
Copy of airway bill/journey details of pet/Bill of entry with custom (If coming under cargo.
Any other document if required during examination of application.
Authorization letter (if owner is not approaching directly).
*A NOC is only granted after the documentation process is complete an all formalities are fulfilled. No shifting or travel can take place in the absence of NOC.
